The bronchi are the lining of the air tubes of the lungs. The inflammation of the bronchi is called Bronchitis. It can be the result of a cold, a sore throat or influentza. The cool air and the low temperatures in winter influence in a negative way the disease. You can be contaminated with the virus that causes Bronchitis by breathing a polluted atmosphere or by smoking.

The symptoms last for one or two weeks, but this period is longer and the Bronchitis becomes chronic in cigarette smokers. They manifest also inevitable winter flare -ups.

Using a microscope we can have the image of the cells in the healthy lungs. These cells looks tall, columnar and their surface is covered with cilia which are able to move creating the image of a wind blowing across a field of ripe corn. This surface covered with cilia is near the inside of the tube and it has the role to protect the lungs. This protection is possible because the movement of the cilia carry dust and other foreign materials upwards and away from the delicate air sacs from the lungs.

The ciliated cells can be damaged by different external irritants such as cigarette smoke, industrial pollutants and other chemical substances. So the effect of the movement of the cilia is not giving results anymore. As a consequence the glands produce a high quantity of mucus which can’t be evacuated and it is accumulated in the tubes. This is one of the causes of the persistent cough which characterizes Bronchitis. Usually this cough succeed to clear the mucus. Another way of protection of the lungs is the action of the Leucocytes whose principal role is to combat inflammatory processes.

Another sign of chronic bronchitis is the weezing. It is produced by the bronchospasm which is represented by the contraction of the circular muscles in the wall of the bronchial tubes.If this happenes the coughing becomes less efective too.

Bronchitis takes part of the disease grouped under COPD which means chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. If the disease doesn’t respond to treatment it can progress to COAD (chronic obstructive airway disease). In this case tiny lung air sacs break down to form larger air spaces. At the same time, because of this change, the surface area available for the transfer of the oxygen to the blood is much less. So the other organs are less oxygenated. the mucus block the smaller bronchial tubes which becomes inflamed.

In this circumstances smoking becomes more dangerous. Another disease which takes part of the category of COPD is Emphysema. Bronchitis and Emphysema lead to breathlessness. Anothe aspect is that it is restricted the quantity of the oxygen that reaches to the blood. This blood without enough oxygen is blue and it gives a bluish tinge to the skin. In medicine this color of the skin is called cyanosis. This is a very helpful sign for the diagnosis.

The heart is also affected in Bronchitis. The right heart enlarges. There is an extra pumping power because of the increase of the resistance to blood pumped through the lungs. The consequence is the oedema which is an exaggerated accumulation of liquid in the interstitial space.

For more resources on bronchitis or especially about bronchitis symptoms please click this link http://www.bronchitis-guide.com/bronchitis-symptoms.htm

bike reviews

The introduction of the Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band (LAGB), or Gastric Banding Surgery has set the medical world abuzz with its excellent potential to reduce and control obesity in men and women. In fact, many are looking at Gastric Banding Surgery as one of the best weapons in humanity’s eternal fight against obesity and weight problems.

Weight loss surgery has historically been considered as a solution that only came as a last resort. The complicated, and often permanent nature of the surgery, kept the general populace away from it by and large. While diet-control, exercises and even appetite-suppressants were gaining in popularity, weight loss surgery was looked upon as the final resort when everything else failed. However, with the introduction of Gastric Banding surgery it is now becoming the mainstream solution for sustained weight loss.

So, what is Gastric Banding surgery? Let’s take a closer look. At the center of Gastric Banding surgery is an ingenious little device, – an adjustable gastric band designed to help you not only to lose excess weight but also keep it off. It is the only adjustable and reversible weight-loss procedure available in the United States and the only weight-loss surgery approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The way the system works is really simple. The band, after being surgically inserted inside the body, restricts the amount of food that can be consumed at one time. It also produces an earlier sense of fullness so that you feel satisfied with smaller portions. This automatically helps you control the calorie intake.

Gastric Banding surgery involves a surprisingly easy laparoscopic procedure which is minimally-invasive and requires under 45 minutes. It is usually performed on an out-patient basis, and this allows patients to return home the same day and resume normal activities within 24-48 hours. The reason behind this is, the procedure does not involve any major surgical intervention such as stomach cutting and stapling or gastrointestinal re-routing to bypass normal digestion. What is more significant is that somebody who has undergone Gastric Banding surgery can choose to have the band removed easily during a later stage.

Due to its success in enabling sustained weight loss, Gastric Banding surgery is now being offered to slightly and moderately overweight people and is not just for people who are morbidly obese. Also known as Bariatric Surgery, LAGB or Gastric Banding surgery is widely being used by an increasing number of people to bring about rapid weight loss and also keep it off. According to the World Health Organization, laparoscopic adjustable gastric band (LAGB) or Gastric Banding Surgery has been used in more than 300,000 procedures worldwide to great success.

If you are already feeling sufficiently motivated to find out more about how Gastric Banding Surgery can help you control your obesity, why not look around the Internet a bit? There’s no dearth of resources to help you. Weight loss specialists such as iVital are a wonderful place to familiarize yourself with this wonderful weight-loss breakthrough. iVital houses some of the finest customer care advisors, advocates, nurses and physicians to ensure that you receive the utmost attention and care and the best possible weight loss solutions available today.

It’s no wonder that the iVital is one of the best online addresses for Gastric Banding Surgery .

rafting

Marijuana is addictive, it can limit your potential, increase your risks for a number of psychiatric disorders, and there is a withdrawal syndrome associated with the drug.

Marijuana today is not what it was even a couple of decades ago, and parents may be underestimating the threat that marijuana poses to today’s teens.

The potency of marijuana has increased many-fold in the last couple of decades alone, and it is as much as 6 times as strong as the marijuana of the 60′s and 70′s. With increased potency unfortunately comes an increased risk for social and health problems and addiction, and with addiction, the inevitable need to detox off of the drug.

Addictions professionals now recognize marijuana as an addictive drug, and there is a documented syndrome of withdrawal symptoms that occur when marijuana addicts try to break free from their habit. The intensity of these marijuana withdrawal symptoms may not be as great as with drugs like heroin, and they may not be as dangerous as a detox off of alcohol; but they are real, they are unpleasant, and they do pose a threat to recovery.

What are the symptoms of marijuana withdrawal?

Marijuana withdrawal symptoms can include insomnia, irritability, aggression, nausea, a lack of appetite, headaches and very strong cravings for the drug. So strong are the cravings and so uncomfortable are the withdrawal symptoms, that many people cannot get past the initial few days of intense withdrawal, and use marijuana again if only to make the symptoms of withdrawal go away.

Marijuana abuse and addiction is the number one reason for a teen entry into drug treatment or drug rehab, and so strong is today’s pot, that many thousands of kids have developed addictions strong enough to require residential treatment, and untold more thousands have developed as yet untreated addictions.

Heavy marijuana use brings an increased risk of present and future psychiatric problems, including depression, anxiety and psychosis, is linked to certain cancers, is linked to developmental delays, and is strongly and negatively linked to academic performance.

How to beat an addiction to marijuana

The reality is that an occasional joint is very unlikely to do much damage, and many people can use marijuana recreationally at this occasional level. But when recreational use becomes regular abuse, and possibly addiction, the detrimental impacts of marijuana on quality of life and potential become very evident( The problems of marijuana addiction).

Many thousands of kids (and adults) need drug treatment each year for assistance bettering an addiction to marijuana, if someone you love is having difficulty reducing their usage or quitting altogether, there are programs and therapies available, and these can be very helpful for anyone committed to quitting.

It is not unusual for anyone to need professional help when dealing with an addiction, and with marijuana addiction, as with any dependency, it is unlikely to go away on its own; and the sooner it’s dealt with, the better the ultimate prognosis.

joomla blog

As you may know, Invisalign is a set of invisible braces which are put in place by a dentist in order to correct the position our teeth are in, these braces are very convenient because not many people are able to tell the difference between people who are wearing them and those who aren’t. The materials used to create such invisible braces are mostly plastic which can be very flexible but at the same time can provide the right amount of pressure needed to correct misplaced teeth.

Alternatively, the new orthodontic appliance has been developed mostly in the UK which promises fast results and similar benefits to Invisalign at a fraction of the price, these new set of braces are called Inman aligners. These aligners are somewhat of a hybrid because they combine the best of plastic and metal braces, unlike other aligners they do not need to be replaced every few weeks, instead they can be adjusted to correct the position our teeth are in.

The difference between Invisalign and the Inman aligner is that the later is not as invisible but provides many of the benefits found on the plastic aligners, but Inman braces a removable, meaning that they will not get in the way of a patient’s meal or oral hygiene, these hybrid braces can achieve several movements using just one aligner.

Both the Invisalign and Inman braces are popular because they can provide fast results however, the later one can achieve certain results in as little as six weeks which by any standard is a record. Traditional braces need to be worn for several months in order to realize a few results, this is not the case with Inman braces.

Finally, and most important feature for most people is that the price of Inman braces is considerably lower than their plastic counterparts, so those who do not mind the aesthetic appearance of braces may be able to take full advantage of this new technology which is currently being developed in the United Kingdom.

In order to achieve better results it is recommended to use several orthodontic procedures which will help you reshape and enhance the look of your teeth, cosmetic procedures include crowns, dental fillings, veneers, etc.

graduation favors

When someone gets a cold sore or knows someone who has one, it is not uncommon for them to wonder, “Are cold sores contagious?” And the answer to this question is yes, cold sores are contagious in more ways than one. The herpes simplex virus that usually causes cold sores is easily spread–even if the infected person does not have an active cold sore.

Cold sores are contagious, and the HSV-1 virus that causes cold sores is present in an estimated 80% of the population. Most people are infected by HSV-1 at an early age, usually by the time they are five years old. Once the virus infects an individual, it will remain in that person’s body forever. Though HSV-1 is latent or dormant for much of the time, it is still present in the body. The virus is usually present near the person’s mouth, but it can spread all over the body. It is important to understand that an infected person can spread HSV-1 to others even while not currently experiencing an outbreak.

One of the most common ways that HSV-1 is spread is through an object an infected person used, like a toothbrush or tube of lip balm. If particles of the HSV-1 virus are transferred to an object and it is used by someone else, that person runs a strong risk of infection.

People are most likely to become infected by HSV-1 by exposure to someone with a cold sore. A cold sore goes through several phases before it disappears. The tingle stage is the first. At this point, the cold sore has not yet formed, but the virus has been reactivated. The risk of spreading the virus increases at this time, but the risk is highest when the sore is in the weeping stage. This is when the sore bursts open and expels a clear liquid. Even during the crusting stage, when the sore is scabbed over, the risk of infection is greater than normal.

It is important to note that HSV-1 can not only spread between people, but also to different parts of the infected person’s body. Herpetic whitlow, the HSV-1 infection of the fingers is particularly painful. People must be sure to wash their hands thoroughly when they have a cold sore to prevent the spread of HSV-1

bike reviews

India has been the most attractive destination for the visitors around the globe. But the recent trend in the tourism sector shows a propelling growth in the travel & tourism industry. This is not only due to the heritage attraction of the country but the medical tourism India that has depicted a steady southward movement, of late. Now the question arises, why should people rush India for treatment? The simple equation is that the medical treatment package price in India is 45% to 60% lesser than the treatment cost in USA or UK.

Training and experience of Indian doctors is widely acknowledged particularly in the US and UK where they have made significant contributions to the delivery of healthcare in the host countries. Many of these doctors after having specialized and practiced in the West have returned home to set up impressive state of the art facilities with the latest in equipment, technology and service levels particularly in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore and to a lesser extent in Ahmedabad, Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai.

What is Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP)?

Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) is a surgical removal of part of the prostate gland. The prostate gland is part of a man’s reproductive system. It makes and stores seminal fluid, a milky fluid that nourishes sperm and forms part of semen. The prostate is about the size of a walnut. It is located below the bladder and in front of the rectum.

Who is an ideal candidate for Transurethral Resection of Prostate?

If a person have any of the urinary symptoms i.e. if a person is unable to completely empty his bladder or experiences pain, urgency for urination, has blood in the urine, has extremely slow stream of urine due to cancerous or non-cancerous (Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy) enlargement of the prostate gland, has stones in the urinary bladder; then he is an ideal candidate for Transurethral Resection of Prostate.

Preparations Prior to Procedure of Transurethral Resection of Prostate-

Doctor will likely do the following:

Physical exam

·Review of medications and supplements

·Blood tests including complete blood count, renal function, PSA (prostate-specific antigen)

·Urine tests including urine culture

·Ultrasound of kidney, bladder, prostate

·Urodynamics to assess degree of obstruction

·X-rays of kidneys and chest

How a Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP)is performed:

A TURP is performed by passing a thin tube up the urethra via penis. The tube is a telescope, so the surgeon can see inside urethra. The blockage is removed using an instrument attached to the telescope that can cut away the abnormal areas. This operation usually means about 2 or 3 nights in hospital.

TURP is done under a general anaesthetic, but for some men, it is done with a spinal anaesthetic. This means patient is awake, but cannot feel anything below the level of the anaesthetic injection into spine.Doctor will suggest a spinal anaesthetic if there are reasons why Patient shouldn’t have a general anaesthetic, for example if patient’s lungs are not as healthy as they might be.

Postoperative Care for Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP):

·There will be a catheter in the bladder to drain urine. The urine may be bloody, but do not be alarmed. This is normal. Water may be flushed through the catheter into bladder to wash out blood and clots.

·Always keep the catheter drainage bag below the level of the bladder.

·Do breathing and coughing exercises regularly.

·Rest in bed until the next morning and perhaps longer. The nurse can assist the first time you get out of bed.

·Clean the area where the catheter enters the urethra several times a day with soap, water, and a washcloth.

·Drink lots of fluids, especially during the day, to help flush the bladder.

·Avoid heavy lifting or exertion for three to four weeks.

·Avoid sexual activity for four to six weeks after surgery.

·Avoid consumption of alcohol, caffeine, and spicy foods that may over-stimulate the bladder.

Outcome of Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP):

Recovery from surgery should take about three weeks. Symptoms such as frequent or painful urination will continue for a while but should lessen during the first six weeks. If there is blood in your urine, lie down, relax, and drink a glass or two of fluid. The next time you urinate the bleeding should have stopped. If it doesn’t, call doctor.

Although sexual activity should be avoided for four to six weeks after surgery, the TURP procedure should not affect your sex drive or ability to have sex. The procedure may damage the muscle valve located at the bladder that directs semen into the urethra and out the penis. If this happens, most of your sperm will flow into your bladder and be expelled when you urinate (this is called retrograde ejaculation). This should not, however, be considered a method of birth control. Some sperm may make it into ejaculation. If you are hoping to conceive children in the future, talk to your doctor about the possibility of developing retrograde ejaculation after the TURP

Transurethral Resection of the Prostate in India:

India is fast emerging as the medical tourism destination of choice to the world combining the best of Western and Eastern health care systems.60, 000 cardiac surgeries were performed in 2004 that matched international standards.

Byetta (exenatide) is a type 2 diabetes treatment that controls glucose, or blood sugar, levels in individuals who are non-insulin dependent. The injectable drug, manufactured by Amylin Pharmaceuticals and Eli Lilly, was approved for market use in 2005.

The drug was recently the center of an investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) after several individuals were hospitalized for serious Byetta risks. The FDA announced it would be increasing the warnings on the drug to include the risk of fatal pancreas conditions including hemorrhagic pancreatitis, inflammation of the pancreas also associated with bleeding, and necrotizing pancreatitis, a pancreas that becomes inflamed and attempts to destroy itself.

Two of the six patients that were hospitalized in August 2008 from the Byetta dangers died because of their conditions. Additionally, 30 cases of acute pancreatitis, sudden pancreatic inflammation, were reported in October 2007 at which point the drug’s makers agreed to include acute pancreatitis on the “precautions” section of the drug’s label.

Side Effects of Byetta

Byetta assists in insulin production from the pancreas and is described as an “injectable pen” that is used one hour prior to eating a meal and should be administered twice a day, according to manufacturers. The drug can be administered directly under the skin usually in the upper arm or thigh or the stomach area, but a spot should be predetermined with a physician.

There are several common Byetta side effects that are associated with consumption of the drug including:

* hunger

* headache

* vomiting

* feeling jittery

* dyspepsia

* diarrhea

* dizziness

While the above side effects are considered normal for a patient to experience, the following side effects have been associated with what Byetta’s manufacturers consider “rare” side effects although a medical professional should be consulted immediately. The serious side effects include:

* hives

* difficulty breathing

* swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat

* pain in the upper stomach

* pain in the back

* nausea/vomiting

* increased heart rate

These Byetta dangers may lead to additional fatalities and patients are advised to discontinue use immediately while also consulting their physician.

Byetta Legal Consultation

Byetta patients who have suffered from any of the above symptoms may be at risk for pancreatitis and should consult medical assistance immediately. Additionally, consulting with a pharmaceutical attorney will increase the potential for receiving monetary compensation for the damages caused by Byetta risks. The opportunity for becoming involved with a Byetta class action lawsuit can be discussed with a knowledgeable lawyer, many of whom offer a free legal consultation to Byetta victims.

favor bags

If you have ever made a trip to the dentist, the odds are that you have come into contact with a dental hygienist. In fact most of your time spent in the dentist’s chair will actually mean that it is the hygienist who is working on you and not the actual dentist, whether you are having a filling put in or just a routine check up. Many people have also found a career as a dental hygienist to be a satisfying one both professionally and monetarily, with the average hygienist in Canada making around $30 per hour. Let’s take a look at the finer points of what a dental hygienist is.

Education

In order to make that kind of money in what is essentially a health care industry; a dental hygienist has to be well qualified. This means they must earn a degree from an accredited dental hygienist school. Most hygienists only qualify for entry into these schools after fulfilling specific science prerequisites at lower levels of education, so it can mean four or five years before a hygienist is qualified.

Duties and roles

Once a hygienist has received the (usually) two year degree from an accredited school, there are several places of possible employment. As mentioned, dentist offices are the most common places to find hygienists, but they also work for oral surgeons and orthodontists as well. There are also hygienists that are licensed to practice outside of the supervision of dental specialists.

As far as actual workloads, dental hygienists are called upon to perform several duties. These duties fall under the hygiene process of care, which includes five steps:

Assessment occurs when the hygienist gathers data about a patient.

Dental hygiene diagnosis is when the data is put into a general idea of the oral health of the patient.

Planning happens when the hygienist formulates a proposal to address any diagnostic problems.

Implementation is when the plan is carried out.

Evaluation is when the plan is monitored and addressed in terms of effectiveness.

For the most part, the actual duties that dental hygienists are allowed to carry out are regulated at the local level. Usually they include cleaning, scaling, planning, and radiographing. And of course there is always a certain amount of patient interaction with your dental hygienist, so most are friendly people!

About the Author:

There are very few anomalies of the thyroid that require immediate medical attention and one of them is the dreaded thyroid storm. It is a serious condition that could result in death in several hours without prompt medical attention.

What is It?

This is a serious condition wherein there is an aggravation of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism. It is hyperthyroidism but in its most severe, life-threatening form. In the past, this condition usually follows a recent surgery but now, it is mostly due to poorly treated or untreated infections.

What sets this condition apart from other forms of hyperthyroidism is the extremely high body temperature of patients with this condition. These patients may reach temperatures of as high 105-106°F.

What Causes the Attack?

This sudden aggravation of hyperthyroidism, in the past, may follow a recent surgery but this has largely been eliminated by the development of modern preoperative procedures. This may happen in patients prepared for thyroid surgery with potassium iodide alone. A few weeks prior to administering iodides, a hyperthyroid patient must first be given doses of propylthiouracil or methimazole until basal metabolic rate is within normal levels.

Another cause of this acute hyperthyroid attack is an infection that has been poorly treated or remains largely untreated. Lung infections, especially, may produce an exaggeration of thyrotoxicosis. Other causes include noncompliance or stopping medications for hyperthyroidism, a high dose of thyroxine treatment for hypothyroid patients, treatment with radioactive iodine, pregnancy, and heart attacks and other heart attack emergencies.

What to Watch Out For

Most signs and symptoms of this sudden condition are exacerbated effects of hyperthyroidism. These include rapid heart beat, chest pains, shortness of breath, anxiety and irritability, disorientation, increased sweating, weakness and heart failure. The hallmark of this particular condition is an extremely increased body temperature. A patient may reach body temperatures of as high as 106°F in the middle of the attack.

Sometimes, the attack takes on another turn wherein the patient may experience extreme weakness, emotional apathy and confusion. The high excitability and delirium of usual thyroid storm patients is not evident and fever may not even be rise as high. This is called apathetic storm.

Intervention

This particular state of hyperthyroidism takes on suddenly and a patient may not be able to help himself once it sets in. It is important that family members or anybody bring the patient to a hospital for immediate treatment. This condition constitutes a medical emergency and it is only through prompt recognition of the signs and aggressive medical treatment that mortality due to this particular disease has been decreased.

The patient is advised to rest and may necessitate mild sedation. Fluids and electrolytes may be replaced intravenously and vitamins and nutritional support may be needed. Antibiotics may also be given if an infection is found to be the cause of the episode.

Other specific therapy given to thyroid storm patients include propanolol, antithyroid drugs such as propylthiouracil and methimazole, large doses of potassium iodide, and dexamethasone. Most of these drugs serve to lower the thyroid hormone in circulation and prevent further production and secretion of thyroid hormone.

Top rated Thyroid Product Reviews

Diagnosing Thyroid Problems

going green tips
